TOOL 01 / REPLENISH
Can overnight charging keep up?
Estimate the energy a parking window could replace. Examples are starting points, not an electrical installation assessment.
Equivalent to about 59.5 km at your consumption. Daily need: 12.0 kWh.
Does not fully replace the entered daily energy.
10.1 hours needed at 1.4 kW before losses.
Calculation & limits
Energy = lower of supply and vehicle AC limit × hours × efficiency. Daily need = kilometres × battery consumption ÷ 100. Recovered distance is an energy equivalent, assuming room in the battery, not a prediction of range added to a full car. Battery heating, cold, tapering, interrupted access and power sharing can change the result. This is an AC calculator, not a DC fast-charge time estimator.
TOOL 02 / COMPARE
What changes in my annual budget?
All amounts are CAD. Replace these illustrative values with your local rates and actual quotes.
Lower EV running cost for energy, entered fees and the insurance difference.
- EV electricity
- $1,067
- Charging / parking fees
- $120
- Insurance difference
- $300
- Gasoline comparison
- $2,560
4,444 billed kWh/year at a blended $0.24/kWh.
Calculation & what is excluded
Billed energy = annual kilometres × battery kWh/100 km ÷ efficiency percentage. Electricity cost uses your home/public energy split and one common loss allowance. Gas cost = kilometres ÷ 100 × L/100 km × $/L. Annual difference = gasoline − electricity − 12 × monthly fees − insurance difference.
Include applicable taxes and variable delivery charges in your rates. Convert per-minute tariffs to an effective $/kWh using a representative session. This is not total ownership cost: purchase price, depreciation, finance charges, installation, maintenance, tires and repairs are excluded. Fixed fees remain even at zero kilometres. No rebates or savings are assumed.
FOR APARTMENTS, CONDOS & SHARED CHARGING
Is your charging plan ready?
Check what you have verified. Unchecked items become your next steps. This is a planning checklist, not a vehicle suitability score. Selections last for this visit.
0 of 5 checks verified
- Visit your main station at the time you plan to charge. Confirm parking permission, hours and typical availability.
- Choose a second station reachable with your reserve. Check the exact connector, vehicle access and adapter requirements.
- Estimate weekly energy and available charging hours, including a colder or busier week.
- Check the operator’s tariff and enter a public-heavy scenario in the running-cost tool.
- Plan for occupied stalls, outages, snow and loss of workplace access. Decide what alternative you can realistically use.

How we choose topics and check answers
We reviewed a sample of publicly indexed r/EVCanada discussions about charging access, winter driving, used batteries, adapters, costs, road trips and rebates. Repeated themes informed this library; this is not an exhaustive survey or a frequency ranking. Reddit is a source of buyer questions, not verified specifications or a community endorsement. We also reviewed r/MachE, r/Ioniq5, r/TeslaModel3, r/TeslaModelY, r/KiaEV6 and r/KiaEV9 to identify questions useful across EV brands. The material is organized by ownership topic, not vehicle model. Supporting owner discussions are separate from technical sources. Complaint posts do not establish failure rates; US and European advice may not apply to a Canadian vehicle.
The guides use original explanations, link to supporting primary sources and identify model-specific examples. Program rules, network access and prices can change. Check the linked authority before purchasing.
Examples from the research: apartment charging, used battery evidence, cold-weather range, insurance and fuel savings and road-trip charging.
