01
Regenerative braking does not eliminate brake care.
Check brake condition and the manufacturer’s service schedule, especially after salted winters. Tesla specifically recommends brake cleaning and lubrication for salted-road use. That is a model-specific example, not a universal service interval for every brand.
02
Price the consumables and access to service.
Ask about the required tire size and rating, winter wheels, alignment, cabin filters, low-voltage battery and fluid inspections. Confirm who can service the exact EV locally, where warranty repairs occur and what towing or travel may cost.
03
Compare the same insurance coverage.
Quote by VIN with the same deductibles, drivers, address and annual distance. Ask about battery damage, replacement-value coverage and optional endorsements. A Reddit premium for someone in another province cannot predict your quote.
04
What should uneven tire wear or vibration prompt me to check?
Ask a qualified shop to measure tread across the full width of every tire, including the inner edges, and investigate alignment, balance or suspension where indicated. A photo or another owner’s experience cannot identify the cause on your car. Test-drive the actual wheel configuration and price the correct replacement tires before buying.
05
Are there fluid services despite having no engine oil changes?
Use the exact Canadian maintenance schedule to check coolant, brake-fluid and other required services. Intervals and fluid types vary by design and model year. Ask for receipts and an itemized quote for work due; do not copy another EV’s schedule or assume electric means maintenance-free.
