How do I plan a road trip without charging surprises?

Choose compatible stops, a reachable backup and realistic charging time.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Plan charger-to-charger legs with an arrival reserve. Check your route in a vehicle-aware planner, then verify the individual stops with the charging operator and recent station reports.

01

A network logo is not a route plan.

Confirm the exact connector, vehicle eligibility, opening hours, payment method and current station status. Set up the accounts you need and try them near home first. Save the operator’s support number and directions in case reception is poor.

02

Allow time for the actual car.

A station’s advertised peak kW is not a constant charging speed. The vehicle’s limits, battery temperature, charge level and shared station power matter. Compare charging curves or 10–80% times under stated conditions rather than simply dividing battery size by station peak power.

03

Give northern routes an alternative.

Identify a second compatible station that is reachable with your planned reserve, not just another pin farther along the route. Confirm destination charging directly with the property. Recheck weather and charger status before departure; no planner can guarantee uptime.
